Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Qubur (ٱلْقُبُورُ): The graves, the resting places of the dead.
  • Buʿthirat (بُعْثِرَتْ): Uprooted, overturned, and emptied of their contents—meaning the earth of the graves is dug up and thrown out, so that the dead within are brought forth.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the graves are overturned and their contents scattered—when the earth is dug up and the dead are expelled from their resting places—this marks the beginning of the Resurrection. The bodies that had long decayed and mingled with the soil are restored and brought forth alive, rising to face their Lord. This is one of the great upheavals of the Day of Judgment, when the hidden becomes manifest, and every soul that ever lived is summoned from its tomb without exception. No grave remains sealed, no secret remains buried, and no one is left behind. The very ground that once concealed the dead now surrenders them, as the command of Allah brings forth every human being from the beginning of time to the end of it.

A Call to Reflection:

Imagine that moment—the earth splitting open, and every soul rising from its sleep of death. The graves that we visit with sorrow, the loved ones we buried with tears, the generations long forgotten—all of them will emerge, not as decaying bones, but as living beings standing before their Creator. This is not a myth or a distant fantasy; it is a certainty that Allah has promised, and His promise never fails. The overturning of the graves is a reminder that this worldly life is not the end. Every deed we do, every word we speak, every intention we hold in our hearts is being recorded, and on that Day, it will all be brought to light. So let this verse awaken your heart: prepare for that moment before it arrives, for the wise one is he who acts now, while the door of repentance is still open, and the chance to do good is still within reach. Do not let the grave be the end of your story—let it be the beginning of your eternal meeting with your Lord, a meeting that will be filled with mercy for the believers and justice for all.

📜 Verse 2-6 — Al-Infitar

And when the stars fall, scattering,
And when the seas are erupted
And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
