Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Bihar (البحار): The seas and oceans.
- Fujjirat (فُجِّرَت): Burst open, split apart, or made to flow into one another.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When the heavens are torn apart and their perfect order collapses, and when the stars fall and scatter, and when the seas are burst open—their barriers broken down so that the fresh and the salt water mingle into a single mass, and their waters dry up or overflow—then the entire universe as we know it will come to an end. This is a scene of total upheaval, where everything that seemed stable and permanent is suddenly thrown into chaos. The seas that once separated nations and sustained life will be turned into a single, raging expanse, signaling that the Day of Judgment has arrived.
This verse calls upon every human being to reflect: if the mighty oceans—those vast, seemingly indestructible bodies of water—can be split and merged at Allah’s command, then nothing in this world is truly permanent. The power that controls the seas is the same power that will resurrect you from your grave. So do not be deceived by the strength of this world or its fleeting pleasures. The One who can burst the oceans with a single word is more than capable of bringing you back to account for every deed you have done.
Let this be a reminder that the Day of Reckoning is real and near. The seas will not remain as you see them today; they will be transformed as a sign of the greater transformation awaiting all of creation. Prepare yourself now—through faith, good deeds, and sincere repentance—so that when that day comes, you will meet it with peace rather than regret. Allah’s power is absolute, and His promise is true. Turn to Him before the seas are burst open and the hour arrives.
