Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Ghayr Mamnūn" (غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ): This phrase carries two profound meanings. First, it means a reward that is *never cut off* or *never comes to an end* — eternal and everlasting. Second, it means a reward that is *not tainted by reminders of favor* (mann) — meaning, it is given purely out of Allah’s grace, without any sense of obligation or belittlement, and it is not diminished or counted stingily.
Explanation of the Verse:
After the previous verses described the severe punishment awaiting those who disbelieve and persist in arrogance, this verse comes as a beacon of hope and mercy. Allah says: "Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds — for them is a reward never cut off."
This is a divine exception, a door of mercy left wide open. It means that despite the terrifying fate of the disbelievers, those who truly believe in Allah — with sincere hearts — and back that belief with righteous actions, performing what Allah has commanded and avoiding what He has forbidden, they are excluded from that punishment. Instead, they are promised a reward that is *unending* and *unblemished*.
The reward here is Paradise, and its beauty is described as "ghayr mamnūn" — a reward that never diminishes, never stops, and is never accompanied by any sense of being counted or measured out. It is a gift so vast that the more you receive, the more you are given, and it flows endlessly from the treasures of Allah’s mercy. Unlike the rewards of this world, which are finite and often mixed with reminders or conditions, this reward is pure, complete, and eternal.
This verse is a gentle call to every soul: no matter how far you have strayed, the door of faith and good deeds is still open. The promise is not for the perfect, but for those who believe and strive. It is an invitation to turn to Allah, to fill your life with sincerity and goodness, and to look forward to a reward that your mind cannot even comprehend — a reward that will never run out, just as Allah’s mercy never runs out.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause for a moment. The same Allah who warns of punishment is the One who promises an unending reward to the believers. He does not want your destruction; He wants your success. The path is simple: believe in your heart, and let that belief show in your actions. Every prayer you pray, every kind word you speak, every honest transaction, every act of charity — these are the "righteous deeds" that build your eternal home.
And what a reward it is! Not like the wages of this world that are counted, taxed, or exhausted. It is a reward that flows like an endless river, a joy that never fades, a peace that never breaks. So why delay? Why hold back? The gates of Paradise are open for those who believe and do good. Let this verse be the spark that ignites your journey toward a reward that will never be cut off — a reward that awaits you with your Lord, forever.
