Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tūri (طور): A mountain.
  • Sīnīn (سينين): The mountain of Sinai, known in Arabic as "Ṭūr Saynā'." It is the blessed mountain where Allah spoke directly to Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah swears by the mountain of Sinai—a place of profound spiritual significance and divine revelation. This is the very mountain where Allah chose to communicate with His Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, speaking to him directly without intermediary. The oath by this sacred site draws attention to the greatness of the Creator, who is capable of all things, and highlights the honor bestowed upon this location and upon Musa, who was chosen for this unique encounter.

The mention of this mountain serves as a reminder of Allah's continuous guidance to humanity through His prophets. Just as Musa was honored with direct speech from Allah, the message of monotheism and submission to the One True God has been consistently delivered throughout history. This oath invites the reader to reflect on the signs of Allah in creation and in history, and to recognize that the same Allah who spoke to Musa is the One who sent the final revelation to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Reflection and Call to Faith:

Dear reader, ponder upon this divine oath: Allah, the Almighty, swears by a mountain that witnessed His glory and His words to His prophet. This is not a mere geographical reference—it is an invitation to contemplate the majesty of Allah and His unwavering care for His creation. The mountain of Sinai stands as a silent witness to the truth of Allah's message and His promise of reward for the righteous.

If Allah swears by such a magnificent sign, how much more should we, as believers, take heed of the message that follows? The oath is a prelude to a profound truth: that Allah created humanity in the best of forms and gave us the ability to choose our path. The mountain reminds us of the prophets who came before us, enduring hardship to convey the truth. Let this verse inspire you to strengthen your connection with Allah, to follow the guidance of His final Messenger, and to strive for the eternal reward that awaits those who believe and do good deeds. For just as Allah honored Musa with His speech, He honors His believing servants with His mercy and paradise—an honor far greater than any worldly gain.
