Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Salām (سَلَامٌ): Peace, safety, and security; freedom from all harm and evil.
  • Maṭla‘ al-Fajr (مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ): The time of dawn’s appearance, when the first light of morning breaks.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse describes the magnificent nature of the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) — a night that is entirely good, blessed, and filled with peace. From its very beginning until the break of dawn, this night is free from all evil, harm, or misfortune. It is a night of complete safety and tranquility, where angels descend with blessings and mercy, and where the believers are enveloped in divine security.

The peace of this night is not merely the absence of conflict; it is a profound, all-encompassing serenity that touches the hearts of those who worship Allah sincerely. It is a night when the believers are protected from every trial and tribulation, and when their supplications are answered, their sins are forgiven, and their destinies for the coming year are written with wisdom and mercy.

This peace extends until the first light of dawn appears, marking the end of this blessed night. The entire night is a continuous flow of divine grace, with no moment wasted — every hour, every minute is an opportunity for closeness to Allah, for reflection, for repentance, and for seeking His boundless favors.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

Imagine a night so pure that it is described as "peace" itself — a night when the heavens open their gates, when the angels descend in droves, and when every sincere prayer is lifted directly to the Throne of Allah. This is the gift of Laylat al-Qadr, a night better than a thousand months (over 83 years of worship!).

O seeker of goodness, do not let this night pass you by! Seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd nights. Stand in prayer, make du‘ā’, recite the Qur’an, and ask your Lord for everything you desire — for your Hereafter and your worldly life. This is the night when destinies are decreed, when hearts are purified, and when the doors of mercy are wide open.

The peace of this night is a glimpse of the eternal peace that awaits the believers in Paradise. Embrace it, cherish it, and let it transform your heart into a vessel of light and tranquility. For the one who revives this night with faith and hope for Allah’s reward, all their past sins are forgiven, and they emerge as pure as the day they were born.

May Allah grant us all the ability to witness this blessed night and to benefit from its infinite blessings.
