📖 English Meaning
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Bring us a Qur'an other than this or change it." Say, [O Muhammad], "It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Those who do not fear the meeting with Us, do not hope for reward, and do not believe in the Day of Resurrection and Reckoning.
Clear, evident signs that plainly demonstrate the truth of monotheism and the Oneness of Allah.
Change it, i.e., replace some of its rulings or verses with others that align with their desires.
From my own accord, without divine command or revelation.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the clear verses of Allah – those that shine with undeniable truth and call people to worship Him alone – are recited to the disbelievers, their response is astonishing. Those who have no hope of meeting their Lord, who do not anticipate His reward nor fear His punishment, and who deny the Day of Judgment, turn to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with an audacious demand: "Bring a Quran other than this, or change it!" They wanted him to alter the divine revelation to suit their whims – to make lawful what is unlawful, to remove the verses that condemn their idols and their foolish worship, and to reshape the truth until it matched their desires.

But the Prophet (peace be upon him) was commanded to respond with a firm and clear answer: This is not within my power, nor is it my place. I am not a messenger who speaks from his own desire. I am but a servant who follows what is revealed to him. I do not possess the authority to change a single letter of what Allah has sent down, for I am only a conveyor of the divine message. And if I were to disobey my Lord by altering His words or compromising His religion to please you, I would fear the punishment of a Mighty Day – the Day of Resurrection, when every soul will be held accountable for its deeds.

This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: The Quran is the unchangeable word of Allah, preserved from any alteration or distortion. No human being, no matter how noble, has the right to modify it to fit societal trends or personal desires. The Prophet himself – the best of creation – had no such authority, so how could anyone after him claim it? The message is clear: We submit to the Quran, we do not make it submit to us. We follow its guidance, we do not bend it to our whims. This is the essence of true faith – complete surrender to the will of Allah, even when it contradicts our inclinations.

And therein lies a beautiful invitation: The Quran is not a book to be shaped by human desires; rather, it is the light that shapes human souls. It is the mercy that guides hearts out of darkness. Those who accept it find peace, and those who reject it lose the greatest treasure. So open your heart to this divine revelation, for it is the path to eternal success – and there is no substitute for the word of Allah, now or ever.

📜 Verse 13-17 — Yunus

And We had already destroyed generations before you when they wronged, and their messengers had come to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe. Thus do We recompense the criminal people
Then We made you successors in the land after them so that We may observe how you will do.
Say, "If Allah had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you, for I had remained among you a lifetime before it. Then will you not reason?"
So who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allah or denies His signs? Indeed, the criminals will not succeed
