Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الْحَقُّ): The Absolute Truth, the One whose existence, divinity, and lordship are certain and undeniable.
- Ad-Dalal (الضَّلَالُ): Error, misguidance, deviation from the path of truth.
- Tuṣrafūn (تُصْرَفُونَ): You are turned away, diverted, or distracted from something.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After presenting the overwhelming signs of His power and mercy—creating the heavens and the earth, sending down rain to revive dead land, and granting you hearing, sight, and hearts—the verse now turns to you directly, O humanity, and declares: "That is Allah, your Lord, the Truth." This is the Being who does all of this—He alone is your Creator, your Sustainer, and the One who manages your every affair. There is no doubt about His reality, and no partner shares in His divinity. He is the Truth that cannot be disputed, the foundation upon which all existence rests.
Then comes a profound rhetorical question that cuts to the very core of human logic: "So what is there after the Truth except misguidance?" There is no middle ground, no third option. Either you are upon the Truth—worshipping Allah alone—or you are in misguidance, following falsehood. There is no neutral zone. This statement eliminates every excuse and closes every door to hesitation. If the Truth is clear and evident, then turning away from it can only lead to one destination: loss and deviation.
The verse concludes with a gentle yet piercing rebuke: "How then are you turned away?" How is it that rational minds, after seeing such clarity, still drift toward falsehood? How can hearts that have witnessed the signs of Allah still prefer the darkness of error over the light of guidance? This is an invitation to self-reflection—a call to wake up from the slumber of heedlessness and return to the natural disposition (fitrah) upon which Allah created every human being.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and look around you. Every breath you take, every beat of your heart, every sunrise and sunset—all of it is a testimony to the Truth of your Lord. The Qur'an is not asking you to believe in something obscure or distant; it is asking you to recognize what your own nature already knows. When you are in distress and you raise your hands to the sky, who do you call upon? When you are grateful for a blessing, who do you thank? That innate recognition is the Truth calling you back to itself.
So why delay? Why let the distractions of this world pull you away from the One who created you and sustains you? The path of truth is clear, and the door of repentance is open. Do not let Shaytan deceive you into thinking you have time, for the soul does not know when it will be called back to its Lord. Embrace the Truth today, worship Allah alone, and taste the sweetness of certainty that no worldly pleasure can match. This is the success that never fades, and this is the peace that fills the heart with light.
