Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kaydahum (كَيْدَهُمْ): Their cunning scheme, deception, or evil plot.
- Tadleel (تَضْلِيل): Making something go astray, being lost, wasted, or rendered futile — i.e., complete failure and nullification.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse poses a rhetorical question to emphasize a profound truth: "Did He not make their scheme go utterly astray?" The "they" refers to the army of Abraha, the Abyssinian governor of Yemen, who marched with a mighty war elephant to destroy the Kaaba. They had meticulously planned a devastating assault, believing their power and military might were unstoppable. Yet, Allah — in His absolute sovereignty — took their carefully laid plans and turned them into nothingness. Their strategy, which they had perfected with such arrogance, was thrown into complete disarray and confusion. They did not achieve their goal of demolishing the Sacred House, nor did they manage to turn people away from it. Instead, their entire expedition ended in humiliation and ruin. The verse reminds us that no matter how formidable human schemes may appear, Allah's will reigns supreme, and He can reduce the mightiest conspiracies to dust in an instant.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless lesson of hope and reliance on Allah. When you see the forces of falsehood gathering, plotting, and boasting against the truth, remember that Allah is the ultimate Protector of His religion and His sacred symbols. The enemies of Islam may unite with all their resources, but their schemes are like spider webs — fragile and doomed to collapse. Just as Allah defended His House with tiny birds carrying pebbles, He can defend His cause with the most unexpected means. So, dear believer, place your trust in Allah, stand firm upon His path, and never fear the plots of the wicked. Their cunning will only lead to their own loss, while the believers who rely on their Lord will witness His victory, whether in this world or the next. Let this verse strengthen your certainty that Allah never abandons those who uphold His truth.
