📖 English Meaning
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Meanings:

  • اسْتَجَابُوا (istajābū): Responded, answered, and obeyed the call.
  • الْحُسْنَى (al-ḥusnā): The best reward — Paradise, and all the everlasting blessings that come with it.
  • لَافْتَدَوْا بِهِ (lāftadaw bihī): They would have offered it as a ransom to save themselves.
  • سُوءُ الْحِسَابِ (sū’ al-ḥisāb): The severe reckoning — being held fully accountable for every sin without any being forgiven.
  • الْمِهَادُ (al-mihād): The resting place, bed, or cradle.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

For those who answered their Lord’s call — who responded to the message of truth with faith, submission, and obedience — there is the most beautiful reward: Paradise, a place of eternal bliss, where every desire is fulfilled and every fear is removed. This is the promise of Allah, and He never breaks His promise.

As for those who turned away and refused to respond to their Lord’s invitation — the disbelievers who rejected His signs and His messengers — their state on the Day of Judgment is utterly desperate. If they owned everything on earth entirely, and twice as much along with it, they would gladly offer all of it as a ransom to free themselves from the torment that awaits them. But it will never be accepted from them. No amount of wealth, no treasure, no worldly possession can buy salvation on that Day.

These are the people who will face the worst reckoning — a full and severe accounting of every evil deed they committed, with no mercy in the balance. Their final destination is Hellfire, a place that will be their bed and their resting place. And what an evil resting place that is!

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: the decision you make today determines your eternal tomorrow. The call of your Lord is not a burden — it is an invitation to success, peace, and everlasting joy. Those who respond now will taste the sweetness of faith in this life and the perfection of Paradise in the next. But those who delay, who turn away, who think they can bargain on the Day of Judgment — let them know that no ransom, not even the entire world and its double, will be enough.

So respond to your Lord while the door of repentance is still open. Answer His call with a sincere heart, and you will find that the best reward — Paradise — is waiting for you. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world deceive you, for the Hereafter is far greater and far more lasting. Choose wisely, for your choice is the key to your eternal home.

📜 Verse 16-20 — Ar-Ra'd

Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allah." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allah partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?" Say, "Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."
He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allah presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allah present examples.

Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of understanding -
Those who fulfill the covenant of Allah and do not break the contract,
