Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse paints a breathtaking picture of the final moments of the righteous believers—a scene that should fill every heart with hope and longing. It describes those whom the angels take in death while they are in a state of spiritual purity, their hearts cleansed from the stain of disbelief and their lives adorned with obedience to Allah.
When the Angel of Death and his helpers come to seize their souls, they do so gently and kindly, for these souls are dear to their Creator. The angels do not merely take their souls; they honor them with a beautiful address, saying: "Peace be upon you"—a comprehensive greeting that assures them of safety from all fear, grief, and punishment. Then they give them the most joyous news: "Enter Paradise because of what you used to do."
This entrance into Paradise is not a matter of luck or chance—it is the just reward for their deeds in this worldly life: their sincere faith in Allah, their adherence to His commands, their avoidance of His prohibitions, and their righteous actions performed with pure intentions. The angels remind them that their good deeds in the world have become the very key that opens the gates of eternal bliss for them.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, contemplate this magnificent scene! The angels themselves welcoming the believer at the moment of death with peace and glad tidings of Paradise—what greater honor could a human being receive? This verse is a divine invitation to every one of us to strive in this life so that we may be among those who are taken by the angels in a state of purity. It teaches us that death is not an end but a transition, and that the quality of our departure depends entirely on the quality of our living. Let us purify our hearts from disbelief and sin, fill our days with righteous deeds, and live in constant awareness that our final meeting with the angels can be a meeting of peace and joy rather than one of regret and sorrow. May Allah make us among those who hear the blessed words: "Peace be upon you, enter Paradise for what you used to do."
