Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah draws our attention to one of His magnificent creatures — the humble bee — and reveals how He granted it a special divine inspiration and guidance. The term "revelation" (waḥy) here does not mean prophethood or a message of legislation, but rather an innate, instinctual guidance that Allah placed within the bee’s nature. This is a form of divine direction that directs the bee to perform its remarkable tasks with precision and order.
Allah commanded the bee — addressing it with the feminine form because bees are female in their worker role — to build its homes in three distinct places: in the mountains, in trees, and in the structures that humans construct for them, such as hives or trellises. This shows the bee’s adaptability and the harmony between creation and human civilization.
This verse is a powerful sign of Allah’s wisdom and mercy. He did not leave the bee without guidance; rather, He instilled in it an extraordinary ability to build hexagonal homes, produce honey, and organize its society in a way that continues to amaze scientists to this day. The honey produced by these bees is described elsewhere in the Quran as a healing for mankind, making this tiny creature a vessel of divine bounty.
For us as believers, this verse carries a beautiful lesson: if Allah guides even a small bee to fulfill its purpose with perfection, how much more should we, as humans endowed with intellect and free will, strive to follow the guidance He has sent to us through His messengers and revealed books? The bee does not rebel against its instinct; it simply obeys. Likewise, our success lies in submitting to the guidance of our Creator, who knows what is best for us in every aspect of our lives.
Reflect on this: the bee’s home is built with such precision that engineers and architects study it for inspiration. Its honey is pure, healing, and beneficial. All of this comes from a creature that received its "revelation" from Allah. So what about you, dear reader? Allah has given you the Quran, the Sunnah, and the light of reason. Will you not respond to His guidance with the same obedience and dedication that the bee shows to its instinct? Truly, in every creature there is a sign for those who reflect, and in every sign there is a call to draw closer to the Almighty.
