Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Basa'ir (بَصَائِرَ): Clear proofs, evidences, and insights that illuminate the truth and open the eyes of the heart to perceive reality.
- Mathbūran (مَثْبُورًا): Destroyed, ruined, cursed, and deprived of all good—one who is utterly cut off from mercy and success.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Here, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) responds to Pharaoh's accusation that he was a magician. With remarkable courage and unwavering certainty, Musa addresses Pharaoh directly, saying: "You know very well—deep down in your heart—that no one sent down these nine miraculous signs except the Lord of the heavens and the earth." These signs were not tricks or illusions; they were *basa'ir*—luminous evidences that pierced through darkness, revealing the oneness of Allah and the truthfulness of His messenger. Pharaoh knew this in his heart, yet he stubbornly denied it out of arrogance and pride.
Musa then delivers a powerful statement of conviction: "Indeed, I firmly believe that you, O Pharaoh, are *mathbūran*—doomed to destruction and loss." This was not a mere threat, but a declaration of divine certainty. The one who rejects the clear signs of Allah, despite knowing their truth, is destined for ruin in this life and the Hereafter. And indeed, history bears witness—Pharaoh was drowned, and his body was preserved as a sign for later generations.
This verse carries profound lessons for every believer. It teaches us the importance of standing firm in the truth, even when facing the most powerful tyrants. Musa did not waver or soften his message when confronted by Pharaoh's might; instead, he spoke with clarity, confidence, and wisdom. It also reminds us that knowledge of the truth is not enough—what matters is acting upon it. Pharaoh knew the signs were from Allah, yet he rejected them, and his end was utter destruction.
Dear reader, let this verse inspire you to be among those who not only recognize the truth but embrace it wholeheartedly. Let your heart be open to the signs of Allah all around you—in the heavens, the earth, and within your own soul. For the one who submits to the truth finds peace, success, and salvation, while the one who turns away, despite knowing better, faces loss. May Allah guide us all to be people of insight and conviction, and may He protect us from the fate of those who reject His signs.
