The Tafsir (Explanation):
Indeed, Allah, the Most High, granted His Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) nine unmistakable, luminous miracles—clear proofs that testified to the truth of his prophethood and the authenticity of his message. These signs were: the staff that transformed into a living serpent, the shining white hand that radiated light, the years of drought and famine that struck Pharaoh's people, the shortage of crops, the flood that overwhelmed the land, the swarms of locusts that devoured their harvests, the lice that tormented them, the frogs that invaded their homes, and the water turning into blood. Each of these was a decisive, visible sign that left no room for doubt.
O Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, if anyone questions the truth of what you bring, ask the Jewish scholars and those among the Children of Israel who have embraced faith—like Abdullah ibn Salam and his companions—to confirm what their own scriptures and history bear witness to. For when Musa came to their forefathers with these dazzling signs, Pharaoh—arrogant and obstinate—did not submit. Instead, he turned to Musa and said: "O Musa, I truly believe you are a man bewitched, whose mind has been clouded by the magic you perform." Pharaoh tried to dismiss the undeniable miracles as mere sorcery, refusing to let the light of truth penetrate his darkened heart.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every seeker of truth: the signs of Allah are clear and abundant, yet the arrogant and the stubborn will always find excuses to reject them. Pharaoh's accusation was not based on evidence—it was a desperate attempt to escape the truth. How many people today, when confronted with the beauty of the Qur'an and the wisdom of Islam, turn away with similar excuses? The Qur'an itself is the greatest living miracle—a book that challenges humanity to produce even a chapter like it, and none have succeeded. Let us not be like Pharaoh, closing our eyes to the light. Rather, let us open our hearts to the signs of Allah all around us—in the heavens, in the earth, and in our own souls—and submit to the One who sent them. For true success lies in recognizing the truth and embracing it with humility, not in fleeing from it with pride.
