Tafsir (Explanation):
Here, Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) responds to the wise servant of Allah (Khidr, peace be upon him) after being warned that he would not be able to bear the journey with patience. Musa says: "You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in any matter."
Notice the beautiful humility in Musa's words. He does not simply say, "I will be patient," but rather attaches his promise to the will of Allah: *"if Allah wills."* This is because Musa knew that patience is not something one can guarantee from oneself alone—it is a gift and a grace from Allah. True reliance on Allah means acknowledging that our own strength and resolve are limited, and that we need His help to fulfill even our sincerest commitments. This is the way of the prophets and the righteous: they never boast of their own abilities, but always attribute their success to Allah's will and mercy.
Furthermore, Musa's second promise—*"I will not disobey you in any matter"*—shows his complete submission to the guidance of the one whom Allah had chosen to teach him. He did not argue, object, or set conditions. He surrendered his will entirely, trusting that whatever instructions would come were for his own good, even if he could not immediately understand their wisdom.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer. When we commit to something good—whether it is seeking knowledge, practicing patience, or obeying Allah and His Messenger—we should do so with humility, saying *"In sha' Allah"* (if Allah wills), and with a sincere determination to follow through. It also teaches us the importance of respecting and submitting to those whom Allah has placed as our teachers and guides, and to trust that their instructions—when rooted in divine wisdom—are ultimately for our benefit, even if we do not see the full picture at the moment.
So, dear believer, let this be your attitude in every endeavor: rely on Allah, commit with sincerity, and submit to His wisdom—and you will find that He will grant you the strength to endure and the light to see the wisdom behind every trial.
