Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say to those who turn away from the truth and persist in their disbelief: "Whoever chooses to remain in misguidance and rejects the path of guidance, let the Most Merciful extend his respite and give him more time." This is not a command for them to remain astray, but rather a declaration of Allah's divine justice—He grants them a temporary reprieve, allowing them to continue in their error, as a test and a means of letting them reap the consequences of their own choices. They are given rope, so to speak, until the very end.
This continues until the moment they witness, with their own eyes, what they were promised: either the punishment that befalls them in this world—such as defeat, humiliation, or destruction at the hands of the believers—or the arrival of the Hour, the Day of Judgment, when they will face the ultimate reckoning and the fire of Hell. At that moment, when all veils are lifted and the truth becomes undeniably clear, they will finally realize who is in a worse position and who is weaker in support. They will see that the believers, whom they mocked and despised, are the ones honored by Allah, while they themselves are the losers—wretched in their final abode and utterly powerless, with no army, no allies, and no one to defend them.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: do not be deceived by the temporary success or prolonged ease of those who oppose the truth. Their apparent strength and comfort are but a fleeting illusion. Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, gives them time—not because He is unaware, but because He is patient. Yet, when His decree arrives, no power on earth or in heaven can delay it. The believer, on the other hand, is promised victory and honor, whether in this life or the next. So take heart, O believer, and hold firm to your faith. Your end is with Allah, and His support is greater than any army. Let not the glitter of this world blind you to the reality that the final triumph belongs to the righteous, and the ultimate loss belongs to those who reject the truth.
