Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse paints a breathtaking picture of Allah's immense generosity. Allah compares the spending of those who give their wealth in His path to a single grain that is planted in good soil. That one tiny grain does not merely grow into one stalk—it sprouts into seven ears, and in each ear there are one hundred grains. So, from one grain, the harvest yields seven hundred grains, and even more. This is the multiplication of reward that Allah grants to those who spend sincerely for His sake.
The meaning is clear: the charity of a believer is never lost. Just as a farmer entrusts a seed to the earth and Allah brings forth from it an abundant harvest, so too does the believer entrust his wealth to Allah by spending it in His cause, and Allah guarantees a return beyond imagination—at least seven hundred times, and He increases it further for whom He wills. This increase is not random; it is based on the depth of faith, sincerity, and devotion in the heart of the giver. The more pure the intention, the greater the multiplication.
Allah then closes the verse with two of His beautiful names: Al-Wasi' (the All-Encompassing in bounty) and Al-'Alim (the All-Knowing). He is Al-Wasi' because His treasures never run dry; He gives from His infinite abundance without any decrease. He is Al-'Alim because He knows exactly what is in your heart—whether you give seeking His pleasure or merely for show. He knows your struggles, your sacrifices, and your sincere intentions, and He will reward you accordingly.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, look at how Allah encourages you to give! He does not merely promise you a reward; He gives you a vivid, agricultural example that any human being can understand. A farmer does not hesitate to plant a single seed, because he trusts that Allah will multiply it into hundreds. So why do we hesitate to spend in Allah's path? Our wealth is like that seed—when we keep it locked away, it remains just one grain, but when we "plant" it in the soil of Allah's cause, it becomes a harvest beyond measure.
This verse is an invitation to every believer to open their heart and their hand. You do not need to be wealthy to be generous. Even a small amount, given with sincerity, can become enormous in the scales of Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Charity does not decrease wealth" (Muslim). And here, Allah Himself promises multiplication that defies human arithmetic.
So, my dear brother and sister, do not fear poverty when you give. Instead, fear missing out on this magnificent multiplication. Spend in the path of Allah—whether it is helping the poor, supporting orphans, building mosques, or spreading knowledge—and trust that the One who is Al-Wasi' will never let your giving go to waste. He is watching, He knows your intention, and His reward is beyond your wildest dreams. Let this verse be a source of hope and motivation for you to be among those who spend in His way, for indeed, Allah loves those who give.
