Surah Taha — Verse 128

Tafsir (Explanation):

Have these people not been guided by the countless nations We destroyed before them? They walk among the very ruins of those peoples' homes—the dwellings of ʿĀd, Thamūd, and the towns of Lot—when they travel in their caravans to the Levant and elsewhere. They see with their own eyes the remnants of those who rejected the truth, yet they fail to take heed. The lesson is not hidden from them; it is displayed before them in the most vivid way.

Indeed, in this destruction and in these ruins there are clear signs and profound lessons for those who possess sound minds and pure intellects. A person of wisdom does not need to be struck by calamity personally to learn; he observes the fate of others and draws the conclusion that the path of arrogance and denial leads only to ruin, while the path of faith and gratitude leads to safety and success.

So, O dear reader, let your heart be awake. Look around you at the traces of history—the fallen empires, the vanished civilizations—and ask yourself: what was the cause of their end? It was their rejection of the truth and their persistence in wrongdoing. Let this be a reminder that Allah's promise is true, His punishment is real, and His mercy is open to all who turn back to Him before it is too late. The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living call to reflect, to reform, and to return to your Lord with a sincere heart. Do not be among those who see but do not see, and who hear but do not hear. Be among the people of understanding, for they are the ones who truly benefit from the signs of Allah.
