Word Meanings:

  • "Qasamna" (قَصَمْنَا): Means to break or crush something completely, severing it entirely. Here, it signifies total destruction and annihilation.
  • "Qaryah" (قَرْيَةٍ): A town, city, or community.
  • "Zalimah" (ظَالِمَةً): Wrongdoing, oppressive — specifically referring to disbelief and transgression against Allah's commands.
  • "Ansha'na" (أَنشَأْنَا): We brought into existence, created, or raised up.
  • "Qawman akharin" (قَوْمًا آخَرِينَ): Another people, a different generation.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse serves as a profound warning and a lesson for humanity. Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) declares: "How many a town that was wrongdoing have We destroyed, and We brought forth after it another people!"

The meaning is that countless communities throughout history were steeped in oppression and disbelief — they rejected the messengers sent to them, persisted in their transgression, and refused to submit to their Lord. Their wrongdoing was not merely against themselves but against the truth itself. When their arrogance reached its peak and they continued to deny the signs of Allah, His punishment descended upon them. The word "qasamna" conveys the imagery of crushing and breaking — a complete and decisive destruction that left nothing of their former glory.

After their annihilation, Allah brought forth entirely new generations who inherited their lands, homes, and resources. The ruins of the previous civilizations stood as silent witnesses to what happens to those who defy their Creator. Yet, remarkably, the new peoples often repeated the same mistakes, falling into the same patterns of disbelief and arrogance.

This verse carries a timeless message: no nation, no matter how powerful, wealthy, or advanced, is immune to Allah's justice. The earth has witnessed the rise and fall of mighty empires, and history repeats itself for those who refuse to learn from the past.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect deeply upon this verse. The very ground you walk upon may have been trodden by nations that once boasted of their strength and mocked the truth. Where are they now? Their palaces have crumbled, their treasures have vanished, and their names have been forgotten — all because they turned away from their Lord.

This is not merely a historical account; it is a living reminder for you and me. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance remains open for those who turn back to Him. But His justice is equally certain for those who persist in wrongdoing. The Qur'an repeatedly calls us to look at the remnants of past nations so that we may take heed.

Let this verse inspire you to examine your own life. Are there forms of oppression or disobedience you need to abandon? Is there a call to truth you have been ignoring? Now is the time to respond — before the decree of Allah overtakes you. Embrace Islam with a sincere heart, for it is the path of salvation in this world and the next. The same Allah who destroyed the oppressors is the One who loves to forgive and guide those who seek Him with humility. Do not let your heart be hardened like those who came before; rather, be among those who learn from the past and race toward righteousness.

📜 Verse 9-13 — Al-Anbiya

Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.
We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason?
And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people.
And when its inhabitants perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it.
[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned."
