Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Mansakan (مَنسَكًا): A place of sacrifice or a ritual of slaughtering animals for Allah, specifically the act of offering blood as a devotion.
  • Bahīmat al-An‘ām (بَهِيمَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ): Grazing livestock, such as camels, cattle, and sheep—animals specifically designated for sacrificial offerings.
  • Mukhbitīn (الْمُخْبِتِينَ): Those who are humble, submissive, and sincerely devoted to Allah, with tranquil hearts that find peace in His obedience.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah reminds us that the practice of sacrificing animals to honor Him is not a new invention—it was a sacred ritual prescribed to every believing community throughout history. From the time of Prophet Adam to the final Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him), Allah established this act of worship so that His servants would remember His name and express gratitude when slaughtering the livestock He has graciously provided for their sustenance. This includes camels, cattle, and sheep—animals that are lawful for sacrifice—while excluding others like horses or donkeys, which are not permitted for such offerings.

The wisdom behind this ritual is profound: it redirects the natural human instinct of gratitude toward the true Provider. When a person raises their hand to slaughter an animal, they are reminded that this sustenance comes from Allah alone, and by mentioning His name, they transform a mundane act into a moment of deep spiritual connection. This practice also serves as a symbolic act of submission—offering what we love most (our wealth and provision) in obedience to our Creator.

Then, Allah addresses all of humanity directly: "Your God is one God." This is the core message of all prophets—the unity of the Divine. There is no partner, no rival, no intermediary between the servant and his Lord. Therefore, the only appropriate response is "submit to Him alone" — surrender your will, your heart, and your actions to His command. This submission is not forced or burdensome; it is the natural state that brings peace to the soul and harmony to society.

Finally, Allah gives a beautiful promise through His Prophet: "Give glad tidings to the Mukhbitīn" — those who are humble before their Lord, who lower their wings in modesty, who are sincere in their devotion, and who find tranquility in His remembrance. For them, there is good news in this world and the Hereafter: divine guidance, inner peace, forgiveness of sins, and the ultimate reward of Paradise. Their humility is not weakness; it is the highest form of strength, for they have recognized their place before the Almighty and have submitted to the One who deserves all praise.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse beautifully demonstrates the universality of Islam—it is not a new religion but the continuation of the same divine message revealed to all prophets. The ritual of sacrifice unites believers across time and place, reminding us that our worship is not merely ritualistic but deeply meaningful. When you mention Allah's name over your sacrifice, you are joining a chain of believers stretching back thousands of years, all declaring the same truth: *Lā ilāha illa Allah* (There is no god but Allah).

The call to submit to the One God is an invitation to freedom—freedom from the slavery of desires, from the tyranny of false gods, and from the anxiety of a purposeless life. Islam offers you a direct connection to your Creator without any intermediaries. And the promise of glad tidings to the humble is a source of hope for every sincere seeker: no matter your past, no matter your struggles, if you approach Allah with a humble heart, He will shower you with His mercy and grant you success in both worlds. Embrace this beautiful faith, and let your heart find rest in the remembrance of the One God.

📜 Verse 32-36 — Al-Hajj

That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.
For you the animals marked for sacrifice are benefits for a specified term; then their place of sacrifice is at the ancient House.
And for all religion We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice] that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. For your god is one God, so to Him submit. And, [O Muhammad], give good tidings to the humble [before their Lord]
Who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts are fearful, and [to] the patient over what has afflicted them, and the establishers of prayer and those who spend from what We have provided them.
And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allah upon them when lined up [for sacrifice]; and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggar. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may be grateful.
