Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- الساعة (Al-Sā‘ah): The Hour — the Day of Resurrection and Judgment.
- أعتدنا (A‘tadnā): We have prepared and made ready.
- سعيرًا (Sa‘īran): A blazing, fiercely burning fire.
Explanation of the Verse:
The verse begins with the word "بَلْ" (nay, rather), which turns attention away from the previous arguments and points to the real, deeper reason behind the disbelievers’ rejection of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Their objections were never about seeking truth or demanding proof — had they truly sought guidance, they would have found abundant signs. Rather, the core issue was their outright denial of the Hour, the Day of Resurrection, and everything it entails of accountability, reward, and punishment.
The verse then delivers a stern and awe-inspiring warning: for those who deny the Hour, Allah has prepared a "Sa‘īr" — a blazing fire that is intensely hot, raging, and ever-burning. This is not an ordinary fire; it is a fire that sears the skin, penetrates the bones, and leaves no respite for its inhabitants. It is a direct consequence of their own choice to reject the truth and mock the promise of resurrection.
This verse serves as a profound reminder to every soul: the denial of the Hereafter is not merely an intellectual position — it is a dangerous path that leads to eternal loss. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who brought life from nothing, is fully capable of bringing humanity back to life for judgment. His promise is true, and His preparation for the deniers is real.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. The Hour is certain — no one knows its exact time, but its coming is inevitable. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has not left us without guidance. He has sent messengers, revealed books, and placed signs in the universe and within ourselves, all pointing to the truth of resurrection and accountability. Do not be like those who closed their eyes to these signs and chose denial. Instead, open your heart to faith, turn to your Lord in repentance, and live a life that prepares you for a meeting with Him. For the same Lord who prepared a blazing fire for the deniers has also prepared, for His believing servants, gardens of eternal bliss and His good pleasure — a reward far greater than anything this world can offer. Choose wisely, for the choice is yours, and the outcome is forever.
