Word Meanings:

Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a tone of profound tenderness and divine care. Allah, the Most Merciful, notices the depth of the Prophet's compassion and his overwhelming concern for his people's guidance. The Prophet's heart was so heavy with sorrow and anxiety for his people's refusal to believe that he was on the verge of destroying himself through sheer grief.
The verse gently rebukes this excessive self-sacrifice, telling him: "Do not let your intense desire for their guidance lead you to harm yourself. Your mission is to convey the message clearly, not to force faith into their hearts."
Faith is not something that can be imposed or manufactured through human effort alone. It is a gift from Allah, granted by His wisdom and will. The Prophet's role was to deliver the truth with clarity, patience, and compassion — and then leave the outcome to Allah. The verse reassures him that if Allah had willed, He could have made every single person a believer, but His divine plan involves testing humanity through free will.
This carries a timeless lesson for every believer and caller to Islam: we must strive sincerely in conveying the truth, but we should never let the rejection of others break our spirits or consume our hearts. Our duty is to plant the seeds of guidance; the growth and harvest belong to Allah alone. The Prophet's deep care for his people is a beautiful example of his mercy — a mercy that Allah Himself acknowledged in the Qur'an: "Indeed, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; grievous to him is your suffering, anxious is he over you, kind and merciful to the believers" (At-Tawbah: 128).
So, dear reader, let this verse fill your heart with hope and relief. Do not despair when you see people turning away from the truth. Your sincere effort is witnessed by Allah, and your reward is with Him. Keep calling to goodness with wisdom and beautiful preaching, and trust that Allah's plan is perfect. The Prophet himself faced rejection and hardship, yet he remained steadfast — and so should we, knowing that guidance is in Allah's hands, and His mercy is vast enough to touch even the most stubborn of hearts at the time He chooses.
