Word Meanings:

  • Al-Amthal (الأمثال): The parables or comparisons — illustrative examples that draw a resemblance between one situation and another to clarify meaning.
  • Naḍribuhā (نضربها): We strike or set forth — meaning We present and establish them.
  • Yaʿqiluhā (يعقلها): To comprehend, grasp, or understand with deep insight.
  • Al-ʿĀlimūn (العالمون): Those who possess true knowledge — people of understanding who reflect and act upon what they learn.

Tafsir (Explanation):

These parables that Allah sets forth in the Qur’an are not mere stories or rhetorical flourishes — they are profound, purposeful illustrations designed to awaken hearts, open minds, and guide humanity toward the truth. Through them, Allah draws vivid comparisons between the fate of past nations who rejected their messengers and the situation of those who persist in disbelief, so that people may take heed and avoid the same destructive path.

Allah presents these examples for all people, yet their deeper wisdom and life-changing lessons are truly grasped only by those who possess genuine knowledge — knowledge of Allah, His signs, His commandments, and His divine wisdom. Such people do not merely hear the parables; they reflect upon them, extract their lessons, and translate them into action. They recognize the mercy behind these illustrations and respond with obedience to their Lord and avoidance of His displeasure.

The parables of the Qur’an are like lamps illuminating the path of guidance. They simplify complex truths, make abstract realities tangible, and stir the conscience. But the light they cast only benefits those who open their eyes and hearts. A person may read the same verses and walk away unchanged, while another reads them and finds the very key to salvation — the difference lies in the presence of a seeking, contemplative, and humble heart.

Dear reader, Allah has placed these treasures before you. Do not let them pass by as mere words on a page. Ponder them, let them reshape your vision, and allow them to draw you closer to your Creator. For the one who truly understands, every parable becomes a stepping stone to faith, every example a reason to turn back to Allah, and every lesson a means to eternal success. The Qur’an is alive — it speaks to those who are willing to listen with their minds and hearts. Be among the people of understanding, and you will find in these parables a light that never fades and a guidance that never misleads.

📜 Verse 41-45 — Al-'Ankabut

The example of those who take allies other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.
Indeed, Allah knows whatever thing they call upon other than Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.
Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth. Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.
