Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah Almighty informs His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) of a profound truth to convey to the disbelievers: Allah knows perfectly well everything that they worship and invoke besides Him. Nothing is hidden from His knowledge — neither their idols, nor their false gods, nor the reality of these deities. And what is that reality? They are absolutely nothing. They possess no power to benefit or harm, no ability to hear or respond, no existence of any true divinity. They are merely names that the disbelievers have invented and given to lifeless objects or imaginary beings, with no substance or truth behind them.
Allah then describes Himself with two magnificent attributes: Al-Aziz (the Almighty) — meaning He is the One whose might none can challenge, whose power none can resist, and who will certainly take vengeance upon those who associate partners with Him. And Al-Hakim (the All-Wise) — meaning He does everything with perfect wisdom, in His creation, His legislation, and His decree. He does not punish except with justice, and He does not command except with what is beneficial for His servants.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, contemplate the greatness of this truth: the One who knows everything, whose power is absolute, and whose wisdom is perfect — He is telling you that those things you might worship or rely upon besides Him are nothing. So why would you turn away from the Almighty, the All-Wise, to cling to that which is nothing?
This verse invites you to free your heart from all false dependencies and to direct your worship, your hope, and your trust solely to Allah — the One who truly knows, truly empowers, and truly governs all affairs. When you realize that everything besides Him is nothing, your heart finds rest in Him alone. And what a beautiful rest it is — to rely upon the One who cannot be defeated, and to follow the guidance of the One whose wisdom never errs.
Let this verse be a reminder that no matter how impressive false gods or worldly powers may appear, they are all nothing before Allah. And the one who places their trust in Allah has placed it in the strongest foundation that can never shake. So come to this truth with an open heart, and you will find peace, honor, and success in this life and the Hereafter.
