Explanation of the Verse:
This verse connects directly to the victory granted to the believers at the Battle of Badr, explaining the divine wisdom behind that decisive triumph. Allah, in His infinite power and justice, ordained this victory for two profound purposes. The first was to cut off a part of the disbelievers—that is, to destroy a significant number of them through death in battle. Indeed, seventy of their leaders and warriors were killed, weakening their strength and breaking their backbone. The second purpose was to humiliate and overwhelm the rest with grief and disgrace—those who survived the slaughter were struck with such shame, despair, and inner turmoil that they retreated in utter failure, having achieved none of their malicious aims. They had come to extinguish the light of Islam, but instead they returned empty-handed, their pride shattered, their plans ruined, and their hearts filled with bitterness. Thus, Allah turned their aggression into a means of their own humiliation and a source of honor for the believers.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear believer, ponder this verse and see how Allah, the Almighty, takes charge of His religion and His righteous servants. He does not leave them to their own devices; rather, He plans, executes, and grants victory in ways that surpass human expectation. When you face trials or enemies who seek to harm you, remember that Allah is fully capable of cutting off their schemes and humiliating them, just as He did at Badr. This is a lesson in reliance upon Allah and a reassurance that no matter how powerful the enemy may seem, the outcome belongs to Allah alone. Let this strengthen your faith, increase your trust in your Lord, and fill your heart with hope—for the promise of Allah is true, and His help is near. Cling to righteousness, and you will witness how He turns the tables on those who oppose His path, granting you honor in this life and the ultimate success in the Hereafter.
