Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kafarū (كَفَرُوا): Disbelieved, rejected faith, and covered the truth with ingratitude.
- Kadhdhabū (كَذَّبُوا): Denied and declared as false.
- Āyātinā (آيَاتِنَا): Our signs — the revelations sent down to the Messengers, and the clear proofs of Allah’s power and oneness in creation.
- Liqā’ al-Ākhirah (لِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ): The meeting with the Hereafter — i.e., the resurrection, the gathering, the reckoning, and the recompense on the Day of Judgment.
- Muḥḍarūn (مُحْضَرُونَ): Brought forth and made present — they will be summoned and forced to attend, never able to escape or absent themselves from it.
Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the bliss of the believers in Paradise, Allah — the Most High — now turns to the opposite end, drawing a clear contrast between the two destinies. He says: “And as for those who disbelieved and denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter — those are brought into the punishment.”
This verse describes three intertwined crimes that lead to utter ruin:
- Disbelief in Allah — rejecting His lordship, His oneness, and His right to be worshipped alone.
- Denial of His signs — refusing to accept the revealed scriptures, the miracles of the Messengers, and the evident proofs scattered throughout the universe that point to His power and wisdom.
- Denial of the meeting with the Hereafter — rejecting the resurrection, the standing before Allah, the reckoning of deeds, and the eternal recompense.
Because they closed their hearts to these fundamental truths, their end is sealed: they will be brought forth into the punishment. The word *muḥḍarūn* carries a powerful meaning — they are not merely thrown in; they are *summoned and made present* in the torment, unable to hide, flee, or absent themselves for even a single moment. The punishment will cling to them, surrounding them from every side, and they will remain in it forever — a just recompense for the lies they insisted upon in this worldly life.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the justice of Allah. He does not punish anyone without clear warning, nor does He send anyone to Hell except after the truth has been made evident to them. The signs of Allah are all around you — the heavens raised without pillars, the earth spread out as a resting place, the sun and moon moving in precise orbits, and your own self, created from a drop of fluid, then shaped and perfected. How can one witness all of this and still deny the One who created it all?
And how can one deny the Hereafter, when this world is clearly a place of trial, not a place of final justice? Have you not seen the oppressor who prospers, and the oppressed who suffers? Does justice not demand a day when every soul is repaid for what it earned? That day is coming — it is nearer than you think.
Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world deceive you. The punishment of Allah is severe, and His promise is true. But His mercy is even greater — the door of repentance remains open until the moment your soul reaches your throat. Return to your Lord now, believe in His signs, and prepare for the meeting with Him. For on that Day, the believers will be in gardens of delight, while the deniers will be brought into the punishment — and no one can save them from it.
Choose today, before the Day arrives when no choice remains.
