Word Meanings:
- "Yaseeroo" – to travel or journey.
- "Atharoo al-ard" – they tilled and plowed the earth for cultivation.
- "Amarooha" – they built upon it, developed it, and made it prosperous.

Tafsir (Explanation):
Have these deniers, who are heedless of the Hereafter, not traveled through the earth with eyes of reflection and hearts of contemplation? If they had, they would have witnessed with their own sight the fate of those who came before them—nations like 'Ad and Thamud who rejected their messengers. Those nations were far superior in physical strength, mightier in power, and more advanced in civilization. They turned the earth upside down for agriculture, dug rivers, built magnificent structures, and flourished in ways far beyond what the people of Makkah have achieved. They enjoyed longer lives, greater resources, and more impressive accomplishments. Yet, when their messengers came to them with undeniable proofs, luminous miracles, and clear signs calling them to the worship of Allah alone, they arrogantly rejected the truth. Their prosperity did not protect them, their strength did not save them, and their grand civilizations did not shield them from the punishment of Allah.
So Allah destroyed them for their transgression. But let it be crystal clear: Allah did not wrong them in the least. He did not destroy them without cause or punish them unjustly. Rather, they wronged their own souls through their persistent disbelief, their stubborn rejection of guidance, and their indulgence in sin. They brought destruction upon themselves by their own choices.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every generation: worldly power, material progress, and civilizational achievements are not indicators of divine pleasure. What truly matters is submission to the Creator and obedience to His messengers. The ruins of past nations stand as silent witnesses, calling out to humanity: "Beware! Do not be deceived by your strength or your accomplishments. The only thing that saves is faith and righteousness."
O reader! Open your heart to this divine call. Travel the earth, reflect on history, and let the fate of those before you be a reminder. Do not wait until it is too late. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Return to your Lord before the inevitable comes, and you will find Him Forgiving and Merciful. Indeed, the Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited—it is a living guide that awakens hearts and leads them from darkness into light.
