Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Asa’u (أَسَاءُوا): Those who did evil, meaning those who committed sins, particularly the gravest of all—disbelief (kufr) and associating partners with Allah (shirk).
- As-Su’aa (السُّوأَى): The worst or most evil consequence; the feminine form of "the worst." It refers to the ultimate evil outcome—Hellfire.
- Aaqibah (عَاقِبَةَ): The final end or outcome of a matter.
- Yastahzi’oon (يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ): They mocked, ridiculed, and made fun of something with contempt and arrogance.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
After mentioning the fate of the believers who do good and receive the best reward, Allah now turns to the opposite group—those who devoted their lives to evil. Their final end was the most terrible and ugly outcome imaginable: Hellfire. This was not an arbitrary punishment, but a direct and just consequence of their own choices. The root cause of their ruin was twofold: they rejected the clear signs of Allah—the verses of the Qur’an, the miracles of His messengers, and the undeniable evidence of His power in creation—and they went a step further by mocking and ridiculing those very signs. They did not merely disbelieve; they added arrogance and contempt, laughing at the truth that was sent to save them. Their mockery was a reflection of their hardened hearts, which had become sealed against guidance. Thus, their evil deeds led them to the worst of ends, and their own tongues and actions bore witness against them on the Day of Judgment.
A Da’wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: the path to ruin does not begin with a single sin, but with a heart that mocks the truth. When a person belittles the signs of Allah—whether the Qur’an, the call of the Prophet ﷺ, or the lessons of creation—they close the door to their own salvation. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has left that door open for you today. He invites you to be among those who believe, reflect, and act righteously. Do not let arrogance or jest keep you from the light of guidance. The Qur’an is not a book to be ridiculed; it is a mercy to be embraced. Every verse is a signpost pointing to your Creator, and every sign is an invitation to eternal success. Answer that call with humility, and you will find a peace that no mockery can ever provide. Choose today to be among those whose end is the best, not the worst.
