Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Attaqū (اتَّقُوا): Have taqwa — be conscious of Allah, fear Him, and fulfill His commands while avoiding His prohibitions.
  • Ikhshaw (اخْشَوْا): Fear and be in awe of a specific day — the Day of Judgment.
  • Lā yajzī (لَا يَجْزِي): Will not avail or suffice — meaning no one can bear the burden or repay on behalf of another.
  • Mawlūd (مَوْلُودٌ): Offspring — a child.
  • Al-Ghurūr (الْغَرُورُ): The Deceiver — referring to Satan (Shaytan), who deludes people with false hopes and empty promises.

Explanation of the Verse:

O humanity! Allah calls out to all people — believers and disbelievers alike — urging them to be conscious of their Lord. This means to obey His commands, stay away from what He has forbidden, and live a life of righteousness and awareness that He is always watching.

Then Allah warns of a terrifying Day — the Day of Judgment — a day when no father will be able to help his child in any way, and no child will be able to help his father. On that day, every soul will stand alone, accountable for its own deeds. No wealth, no status, no family ties, and no intercession will matter except by Allah’s permission. This is a stark reminder that our ultimate success depends solely on our own faith and actions.

Allah then reassures us: "Indeed, the promise of Allah is true." The resurrection, the reckoning, the scales of deeds, Paradise, and Hellfire — all of this is certain and will undoubtedly come to pass. There is no doubt in it, so we must prepare for it.

Finally, Allah gives a profound warning: "So do not let the worldly life delude you, and do not let the Deceiver delude you concerning Allah." The life of this world — with its fleeting pleasures, wealth, status, and distractions — can make a person forget the Hereafter. It can trick you into thinking you have all the time in the world, or that you can repent later, or that your good deeds are enough. And the "Deceiver" is Satan, who whispers to you, making sin seem attractive and repentance seem unnecessary. He may even deceive you about Allah — making you think Allah is too merciful to punish you, or that His forgiveness is guaranteed no matter what you do, while you continue living in disobedience.

The essence of this verse is a call to wake up: Do not live carelessly, do not be fooled by temporary pleasures, and do not let Satan trick you into a false sense of security. Live with taqwa, fear the Day when no one can help you, and hold firmly to the truth that Allah’s promise is real.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful and powerful reminder from your Lord — a call of love and concern from the One who created you and knows what is best for you. Allah is not threatening you to scare you away; He is warning you out of mercy, so that you may succeed and be saved from a day of utter regret.

Think about it: if a loving father warns his child about a dangerous road ahead, the child would be wise to listen. How much more worthy is the warning of Allah, the Most Merciful, who wants nothing but good for His servants?

The door of repentance is open right now. You do not need to wait until tomorrow, for tomorrow may never come. Turn back to Allah today with a sincere heart, perform your prayers, give charity, be kind to your parents, and seek His forgiveness. Do not let the glitter of this world blind you, and do not let Satan steal your chance at eternal bliss.

The promise of Allah is true — Paradise is real, and it is worth every effort. So be among those who heed the call, and let this verse be the turning point that brings you closer to your Lord. May Allah grant us all steadfastness and protect us from the deception of this world and of Satan. Ameen.

📜 Verse 31-34 — Luqman

Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allah that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
