📖 English Meaning
And when our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, "This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping." And they say, "This is not except a lie invented." And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is not but obvious magic."

Word Meanings:

  • Bayyinat (بَيِّنَاتٍ): Clear, evident, and unmistakable signs or verses.
  • Ifk (إِفْكٌ): A lie, falsehood, or fabricated statement.
  • Muftaran (مُفْتَرًى): Invented or forged, falsely attributed to someone.
  • Sihr (سِحْرٌ): Magic or sorcery.
  • Mubin (مُبِينٌ): Clear, obvious, or manifest.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the clear verses of Allah — the Qur’an — are recited to the disbelievers of Makkah, with their proofs shining as bright as day and leaving no room for doubt, they do not respond with reflection or gratitude. Instead, they turn to their people and say: "This man (Muhammad, peace be upon him) is nothing but a person who wants to turn you away from the worship of the idols that your forefathers used to worship." They accused him of having a hidden agenda — to break their connection with their ancestors and strip them of their inherited traditions.

Then they went even further and said about the Qur’an itself: "This is nothing but a lie that he has fabricated and falsely attributed to Allah." They claimed that the Prophet (peace be upon him) invented the Qur’an from his own mind, not that it was revealed from the Lord of the worlds.

And when the truth — the Qur’an and the message of Islam — came to them, the disbelievers rejected it and said: "This is nothing but clear magic." They called it sorcery, claiming that it bewitched people, separating a man from his wife and a son from his father, because they saw how Islam transformed hearts and broke the bonds of ignorance and blind loyalty to false traditions.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, look at how the disbelievers of old responded to the truth — not with evidence or logic, but with accusations and labels. They called the Prophet a liar, a poet, a magician, and a man with selfish motives. Yet, the Qur’an stood firm, challenging them to produce even a single chapter like it, and they could not. This is the same Qur’an that continues to guide billions of hearts today, transforming lives, bringing peace to souls, and answering the deepest questions of existence.

When you hear the verses of Allah, do not let pride or blind attachment to the ways of your forefathers close your heart. The truth does not need to be old to be true, nor does it need to be new to be right. The message of Islam is the message of all the prophets — from Adam to Noah, from Abraham to Moses, from Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them all) — calling humanity to worship the One True God alone, who created us, sustains us, and to whom we shall all return.

Open your heart to the Qur’an. Let its verses illuminate your path. For in it is healing for your souls, guidance for your steps, and mercy that encompasses all of creation. Do not be like those who saw the truth clearly and still turned away, calling it magic and lies. Be among those who listen to the word, and follow the best of it — for they are the ones whom Allah has guided, and they are the people of understanding.

📜 Verse 41-45 — Saba

They will say, "Exalted are You! You, [O Allah], are our benefactor not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn; most of them were believers in them."
But today you do not hold for one another [the power of] benefit or harm, and We will say to those who wronged, "Taste the punishment of the Fire, which you used to deny."
And when our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, "This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping." And they say, "This is not except a lie invented." And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, "This is not but obvious magic."
And We had not given them any scriptures which they could study, and We had not sent to them before you, [O Muhammad], any warner.
And those before them denied, and the people of Makkah have not attained a tenth of what We had given them. But the former peoples denied My messengers, so how [terrible] was My reproach.
