Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Salāmun (سَلَامٌ): Peace, safety, and security; a greeting of well-being.
- Qawlan (قَوْلًا): As a saying, a word, or an address.
- Min Rabbin Raḥīm (مِن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ): From a Lord Who is Most Merciful — emphasizing His attribute of boundless compassion toward His believing servants.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse unveils one of the greatest honors bestowed upon the inhabitants of Paradise — a blessing that surpasses all the gardens, rivers, and delights they have been given. After they have entered Paradise and received every joy their hearts could desire, their Most Merciful Lord addresses them directly with His divine greeting: "Peace." This is not a greeting from an angel or a messenger, but from Allah Himself, without any intermediary.
The word "Salām" here signifies complete safety and freedom from every flaw, fear, sorrow, or harm — a perfect peace that fills their hearts and souls. When the Lord of all creation, the Most Merciful, speaks this word to them, it becomes a seal of honor and a source of eternal tranquility. It is a greeting that no king, prophet, or angel could ever offer, for it comes directly from the One whose mercy encompasses all things.
This divine address is described as "a saying" — a direct, personal communication from Allah to the believers, which is the ultimate joy for those who loved and obeyed Him in the worldly life. It is a moment when the believer hears the voice of their Creator, not in the form of commands or tests, but as a pure, loving salutation. This is the highest reward: the pleasure of Allah and His intimate acknowledgment of His servants.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Imagine the moment when you, as a believer, stand before your Lord after a life of patience and faith, and He — the Most Merciful — turns to you and says, "Peace." What heart could contain such joy? This verse invites us to strive for that moment, to live a life that earns this divine greeting. It reminds us that no matter the hardships we face in this world — the trials, the tears, the sacrifices — there awaits a peace that is beyond imagination, spoken by the Most Merciful Himself. Let this hope fill your heart with love for Allah and motivate you to draw closer to Him every single day. For the One who promises this greeting is the One who never breaks His promise, and His mercy is greater than any sin or shortcoming you may fear. Seek Him, and let His peace be your ultimate goal.
