Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Wa’mtāzū (وامتازوا): Separate yourselves, be distinguished, or move apart. It carries the sense of being set apart or isolated from a group.
  • Al-Mujrimūn (المجرمون): The criminals, the guilty ones, those who persisted in sin and disbelief.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, when the final separation between the righteous and the wicked takes place, it will be said to the disbelievers and criminals: "Separate yourselves this Day, O you criminals!" They will be commanded to move away from the believers and stand apart, for there is no compatibility between the two groups. Their deeds, their beliefs, and their ultimate fates are utterly different. Just as they lived in arrogance and defiance in the worldly life, now they will be isolated in humiliation and disgrace. This separation is not merely physical but a profound declaration of the chasm between those who obeyed their Lord and those who rebelled against Him. The believers will be honored with closeness to their Lord, while the criminals will be left alone, facing the consequences of their choices with no one to intercede for them or shield them from what awaits.

A Da’wah Reflection:

This verse is a powerful reminder that our actions in this life determine our standing in the next. The separation commanded here is the natural outcome of a life lived apart from Allah’s guidance. But the door of mercy is still open in this world! Every breath you take is an opportunity to turn back to your Creator, to leave the ranks of the heedless and join the company of the faithful. Do not wait until the Day when the command to separate is given—a command that will bring regret beyond measure. Today, you can choose your company: the company of those who remember Allah and strive for His pleasure, or the company of those who neglect Him. The choice is yours, and the time is now. Let this verse awaken your heart, for Allah’s mercy is vast, and His forgiveness is greater than your sins. Return to Him before the Day when separation becomes eternal.

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -
