Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Subhān (سُبْحَانَ): Declaring Allah free from every imperfection, deficiency, or flaw; glorifying Him above all that does not befit His majesty.
  • Malakūt (مَلَكُوت): The absolute dominion, sovereignty, and full control over all things — emphasizing the perfection and comprehensiveness of His ownership and authority.
  • Turja‘ūn (تُرْجَعُونَ): You will be returned, brought back — referring to the resurrection and the return to Allah for judgment.

Explanation of the Verse:

After presenting vivid scenes of creation, resurrection, and the signs of Allah’s power throughout the universe, this concluding verse of Surah Ya-Sin crowns the entire chapter with a declaration of Allah’s absolute perfection and sovereignty. Allah proclaims: *"So glorified is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to Him you will be returned."*

This verse calls upon every believer to stand in awe of Allah’s majesty. He is the One who holds the reins of everything that exists — the heavens, the earth, the stars, the winds, the hearts of human beings, life and death, and every secret hidden in the depths of the universe. Nothing moves, nothing breathes, nothing changes except by His will and under His complete control. His dominion is not partial or temporary; it is total, absolute, and eternal.

The word *malakūt* conveys a deeper sense of sovereignty — not just ownership, but the active, ongoing management and perfect governance of all creation at every moment. He is not a distant creator who set things in motion and left them; rather, He is constantly sustaining, directing, and controlling every affair. This understanding fills the believer’s heart with profound trust and reliance on Allah alone.

The verse also carries a powerful reminder: *"and to Him you will be returned."* This is both a promise and a warning. For the believers, it is the glad tiding that they will return to their Most Merciful Lord, who will reward them for their patience, faith, and good deeds. For those who denied the truth and lived in arrogance, it is a solemn warning that they will face their Creator and be held accountable for every action, word, and intention.

This beautiful conclusion invites every soul to reflect: if Allah holds the dominion of all things, then why would we turn to anyone else? Why would we place our hopes in fleeting creations when the Creator of all things is fully capable of answering our prayers, forgiving our sins, and granting us success? The verse redirects the heart toward its true purpose — to know Allah, to worship Him alone, and to prepare for the inevitable meeting with Him.

Let this verse be a source of tranquility for your heart: the One who controls everything is your Lord, your Protector, and your ultimate destination. So live your life conscious of His watchful eye, seek His pleasure in all that you do, and never despair of His mercy — for to Him you will return, and with Him lies the most beautiful reward.
