Explanation of the Verse:
O all of humanity—whether believer or disbeliever, Arab or non-Arab—heed the call of your Lord and be mindful of Him in every moment. He is the One who brought you into existence from a single soul: Adam (peace be upon him). From that same soul, He created his wife, Hawwā', so that humanity would share one origin, one nature, and one destiny. From these two, He spread across the earth countless men and women, making you all branches of one family tree, equal in your creation and your worth before Him.
So fear Allah, the Lord who is so great that when you ask one another for favors, you invoke His name—saying, "I ask you by Allah"—and you place your trust in Him. And fear Him regarding the wombs: honor your kinship ties, treat your relatives with kindness, and never sever the bonds of family that He has commanded you to uphold. Indeed, Allah is ever watchful over you. He sees every act of obedience and every sin, every kindness and every neglect. Nothing is hidden from Him, and He will hold you accountable for all that you do.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse opens the Qur'anic address to all of humanity with a profound reminder of our shared origin. If you truly understand that you all descend from one father and one mother, then pride, arrogance, and division have no place among you. The diversity of your nations, tribes, and colors is not a cause for superiority but a sign of Allah's creative power. Let this knowledge fill your heart with humility and love for your fellow human beings.
And when you are reminded that Allah is *Raqīb*—Ever-Watchful—let this transform your life. Would you sin if you knew someone was watching you? Then know that the Creator of the heavens and the earth sees you always. This awareness is the essence of *taqwa*: it is not mere fear, but a loving consciousness that drives you to please Allah in every action, word, and thought.
The command to honor the wombs is a call to strengthen your family ties. Reach out to your relatives, forgive their shortcomings, and support them in times of need. A community that upholds kinship is a community that thrives with mercy and compassion. And when you ask others for anything, let your words be sealed with the name of Allah, reminding yourself and them of the One who is the source of all goodness.
Let this verse be a turning point in your life: embrace your unity as one human family, live with God-consciousness, and never break the bonds that Allah has commanded you to keep. For He is watching, He is merciful, and He is ready to reward those who strive to please Him.
