Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, say clearly to those who associate partners with Allah: I have been strictly forbidden from worshipping the false deities and idols that you call upon and worship instead of Allah. This prohibition came to me when the clear proofs and decisive evidences arrived from my Lord—proofs that illuminate the truth of His Oneness and expose the falsehood of your worship. These signs left no room for doubt and made the path of truth unmistakably clear.
And alongside this prohibition, I have been commanded to submit myself wholly and sincerely to the Lord of all the worlds—the One who created the heavens and the earth, who gives life and causes death, who alone deserves all worship, and whose command is absolute over every being. My submission is not merely outward but a complete surrender of my heart, my will, and my entire existence to His will and His decree.
This verse carries a profound message for every seeker of truth: worship is not a matter of blind tradition or inherited custom, but a matter of clear evidence and sincere conviction. When the truth becomes evident, the believer must abandon all false objects of worship—no matter how deeply rooted they are in society—and turn exclusively to the Creator of all worlds. The Prophet ﷺ stood firm upon this principle despite the pressure of his people, and every Muslim is called to embody the same courage and clarity: to worship Allah alone, with full submission and unwavering certainty.
It is Allah who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a ceiling and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord; then blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.
He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allah once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds."
It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason.
