📖 English Meaning
And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allah. Word Meanings:

  • Qasasnā (قَصَصْنَا): We have narrated or related their stories and news.
  • Āyah (آيَة): A sign, miracle, or proof.
  • Amr Allāh (أَمْرُ اللَّهِ): The command of Allah, referring here to His decree of punishment or judgment.
  • Quḍiya (قُضِيَ): It was decided or settled with justice.
  • Mubṭilūn (الْمُبْطِلُونَ): Those who follow falsehood, the people of vanity and false claims.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O noble Messenger, know that We sent many messengers before you to their respective nations. They called their people to the worship of Allah alone, endured harm and rejection with patience, and delivered the message entrusted to them. Among those messengers, there are some whose stories We have narrated to you in detail—like Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, and ‘Isa (peace be upon them)—and there are others whose stories We have not mentioned to you, for their number is great and their accounts are known only to Allah. All of them were sent with the same core message: to worship Allah sincerely and to warn against falsehood.

No messenger ever had the power to bring a miracle or sign on his own whim or at the mere request of the disbelievers. Rather, every sign, whether sensory or intellectual, came only by Allah’s permission and will. The disbelievers who demanded miracles from you, O Muhammad, were merely following the same stubborn pattern of their predecessors—they asked for signs not out of sincere seeking of truth, but out of arrogance and defiance. Yet Allah, in His wisdom, granted miracles to His messengers as He willed, and withheld them as He willed, for His wisdom is perfect and His decree is just.

When the command of Allah arrives—whether it be the punishment of the disbelievers in this world or the final judgment on the Day of Resurrection—He will settle the matter between His messengers and those who rejected them with absolute justice. The truthful will be vindicated, the messengers and their followers will be saved, and the people of falsehood will face utter loss and ruin. In that moment, all their arguments, schemes, and false claims will vanish, and they will realize—too late—that their stubbornness and rejection led them only to destruction.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer. It reassures us that Allah’s plan is always in motion, and that His messengers—throughout history—faced similar trials of rejection and mockery, yet remained steadfast. If you are facing opposition for your faith, remember that you are walking the path of the prophets. Their success was not in immediate victory, but in their unwavering trust in Allah’s decree. The disbelievers may demand signs and miracles, but the greatest sign is the Qur’an itself—a living, eternal miracle that challenges humanity to produce its like. And when Allah’s command comes, the truth will always prevail, and falsehood will be humiliated. So hold firm, for the end belongs to the righteous, and the loss is only for those who persist in falsehood.

📜 Verse 76-80 — Ghafir

Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."
So be patient, [O Muhammad]; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.
And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allah.
It is Allah who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat.
And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts; and upon them and upon ships you are carried.
