Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Rabbuna Allah" — "Our Lord is Allah": This is the declaration of Tawheed (monotheism), affirming that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign.
  • "Thumma istaqamu" — "Then they remained steadfast": This means they persisted firmly and consistently upon this declaration, not merely uttering it with their tongues but living it through sincere belief, righteous deeds, and unwavering obedience.
  • "Khawf" — Fear: The dread of future harm or punishment.
  • "Huzn" — Grief: Sadness over past losses or missed opportunities.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Most Merciful, gives glad tidings to those who make the noble declaration: "Our Lord is Allah" — affirming His Oneness, His sole right to worship, and His perfect attributes — and then remain steadfast upon this faith. Steadfastness here means more than a momentary statement; it entails consistency in belief, sincerity in worship, adherence to His commands, and avoidance of His prohibitions throughout one's life, until death.

For such believers, Allah guarantees two profound blessings:

First: "There is no fear upon them" — They will have no fear of the terrors of the Day of Resurrection, the questioning in the grave, the scales of justice, or the crossing of the Sirat. Their hearts will be at peace because they placed their trust in Allah and lived in obedience to Him. They will not dread what awaits them in the Hereafter, for their Lord has promised them Paradise and His eternal pleasure.

Second: "Nor shall they grieve" — They will not sorrow over the worldly pleasures and comforts they may have left behind, nor over the opportunities they sacrificed for the sake of Allah. They will not regret what they missed of this fleeting life, because they have exchanged it for something far greater and everlasting. They will not grieve over their past sins either, for Allah's mercy and forgiveness have wiped them clean through their sincere repentance and steadfastness.

This verse is a source of immense comfort and motivation for every believer. It teaches us that the path to peace — both in this world and the next — lies in two simple yet profound steps: sincere faith in Allah and steadfastness upon that faith. When you anchor your heart to Allah and remain firm on His path, He takes away your fears and your sorrows. You no longer live in anxiety about the future, because you know your ultimate destiny is with your Lord. You no longer grieve over the past, because you trust that Allah's decree was best for you.

Dear reader, reflect on this beautiful promise. Allah is not asking you to be perfect, but He is asking you to be steadfast — to keep returning to Him, to keep striving in His way, and to never abandon your declaration of faith. If you do this, then no matter what trials come your way, you have Allah's personal guarantee: no fear, no grief. What greater security could a heart ever desire? This is the tranquility that only faith can bring — a peace that surpasses all worldly comforts. Embrace it, and let your heart rest in the certainty of Allah's promise.

📜 Verse 11-15 — Al-Ahqaf

And those who disbelieve say of those who believe, "If it had [truly] been good, they would not have preceded us to it." And when they are not guided by it, they will say, "This is an ancient falsehood."
And before it was the scripture of Moses to lead and as a mercy. And this is a confirming Book in an Arabic tongue to warn those who have wronged and as good tidings to the doers of good.
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah," and then remained on a right course - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
Those are the companions of Paradise, abiding eternally therein as reward for what they used to do.
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
