Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Bāṭil (الباطل): Falsehood, everything that is contrary to the truth — including following Satan, disbelief, and deviation from Allah's guidance.
- Al-Ḥaqq (الحق): The truth — referring to the Qur'an, the message of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the path of guidance from Allah.
- Yaḍribu amthālahum (يضرب أمثالهم): Allah presents their examples and likenesses — i.e., He explains their states and outcomes through parables so people may reflect and take heed.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse reveals the profound wisdom behind why Allah guides some people and leaves others to stray. The reason is clear and just: those who disbelieve have chosen to follow falsehood — they have obeyed Satan and turned away from the truth, preferring darkness over light. On the other hand, those who believe have chosen to follow the truth that came from their Lord — the Qur'an and the message of His final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They embraced guidance with sincere hearts and acted upon it.
Because of this fundamental difference in their choices and pursuits, their destinies are completely different. The believer's path leads to eternal bliss, while the disbeliever's path leads to ruin. This is not injustice — it is the perfect justice of Allah, who rewards each group according to what they have earned.
Allah then tells us that He strikes parables for people — He presents the examples of previous nations and their fates so that humanity may learn from them. He shows how every person is matched with what they deserve: the people of truth are joined with truth, and the people of falsehood are joined with falsehood. This is a divine invitation to reflect: which path do we want to walk?
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse places the choice before you. Allah has made the truth clear, and He has shown you the consequences of both paths. He does not force anyone — He simply presents the evidence and lets you decide. The one who follows falsehood is like one chasing a mirage that vanishes when they reach it, while the one who follows the truth is like one walking on solid ground toward an everlasting reward.
Let this be a moment of sincere self-reflection. Ask yourself: what am I following in my daily life? Am I following the desires of the soul and the whispers of Satan, or am I following the guidance of my Creator? The Qur'an is the truth from your Lord — it contains everything you need for success in this life and the next. Open your heart to it, and you will find peace, purpose, and a light that will never fade.
Allah, in His infinite mercy, has not left you without a guide. He has sent His Book and His Messenger to show you the way. Embrace the truth today, and you will see how Allah elevates your rank and grants you success beyond your imagination. This is the promise of the One who never breaks His promise.
