Word Meanings:

  • Shāqqū al-Rasūl (وَشَاقُّوا الرَّسُولَ): They opposed and fought the Messenger, taking a path of hostility and enmity against him.
  • Tabayyana lahum al-hudā (مِن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْهُدَىٰ): After the truth and guidance became clear and evident to them through proofs and signs.
  • Yuḥbiṭa aʿmālahum (سَيُحْبِطُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ): He will nullify and render their deeds worthless, so they gain no reward for them.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse delivers a powerful and reassuring message to the believers while serving as a stern warning to those who persist in disbelief and hostility. Allah declares that those who reject faith, block others from His path, and wage war against His Messenger—even after the truth has been made unmistakably clear to them through miracles, scriptures, and undeniable proofs—will never harm Allah in the slightest. Their plots, their opposition, and their efforts are utterly futile against the might and sovereignty of Allah.

The verse emphasizes that such people only harm themselves. Their disbelief and obstruction do not diminish Allah's religion or His power in any way. Instead, they incur His displeasure and punishment. Furthermore, Allah promises that He will completely nullify their deeds—every good action they performed in this world, whether charity, kindness, or any apparent virtue—will be rendered void because they were not done with sincere faith and the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure. Since they rejected the foundation of all accepted deeds—faith in Allah and His Messenger—their entire record of works collapses like a building without a foundation.

This verse was revealed in the context of the Jewish tribes of Banu Qurayẓah and Banu al-Naḍīr, who, despite recognizing the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a truthful messenger from their own scriptures, chose to oppose him and incite others against Islam. Their knowledge made their crime even graver, for they rejected the truth after it had been fully clarified to them.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse and let it awaken your heart. If the enemies of truth—no matter how powerful, wealthy, or influential—cannot harm Allah in the least, then what do they truly achieve? Their schemes vanish like dust in the wind, while Allah's promise stands firm: the believers who uphold His cause will be supported and victorious.

This verse also carries a profound lesson for us all: the value of our deeds depends entirely on the sincerity of our faith. A deed without faith is like a body without a soul—lifeless and void. So hold fast to your faith, purify your intentions, and let every action be rooted in love for Allah and His Messenger. For Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good with sincere hearts, and He is ever watchful over the deeds of all.

Let this be a source of comfort and strength: no matter how great the opposition against truth may seem, Allah's promise of victory for His religion is absolute. And no matter how many good deeds the disbelievers accumulate in this world, without faith, they will find them all turned to nothing on the Day when deeds are weighed. So choose the path of faith and righteousness, and you will find success in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 30-34 — Muhammad

And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds.
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allah at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allah forgive them.
