Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- آلَاء (Ālā'): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
- رَبِّكُمَا (Rabbi-kumā): Your Lord — addressed to both mankind and jinn.
- تُكَذِّبَانِ (Tukadhdhibān): You both deny or reject.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a powerful rhetorical question that Allah repeats throughout Surah Ar-Rahman, addressing both humans and jinn together. It serves as a profound reminder and a gentle yet firm rebuke: "So which of the blessings of your Lord do you both deny?"
The meaning is clear and penetrating: Allah has showered upon mankind and jinn countless favors — the gift of life, health, intellect, faith, provision, the earth and sky, the sun and moon, the seas and rivers, and above all, the guidance of Islam and the Qur'an. These blessings are so numerous and so evident that they cannot be counted or enumerated. Yet, despite all this, how is it that some among you still deny these favors, or use them in disobedience to their Giver, or refuse to acknowledge His oneness and His mercy?
The verse is not merely a question — it is an invitation to reflect. It calls upon every soul to pause and consider: When you breathe, when you eat, when you love, when you wake up each morning — whose mercy is behind all of this? And after all that He has given, could you ever repay even a single blessing? So how could you possibly deny any of them?
This repetition of the verse throughout the surah is a beautiful rhetorical device that stirs the heart, awakens gratitude, and humbles the proud. It reminds us that denial of Allah's blessings — whether through disbelief, ingratitude, or sin — is the greatest injustice to oneself.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, look around you for just a moment. The air you breathe, the heartbeat you never command, the water you drink, the love in your family, the safety in your home — every single one of these is a gift from your Lord. He did not have to give them to you, yet He did, out of His infinite mercy. And He continues to give, every second of every day, without you even asking.
So the question comes to you personally today: After all this, will you still deny His blessings? Will you still turn away from His guidance? Or will you open your heart, say "Alhamdulillah" (all praise is due to Allah), and submit to the One who has never stopped being good to you?
Islam is not a burden — it is the key to appreciating every blessing you already have. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that true richness is not in wealth, but in a content heart that recognizes its Lord. So let this verse be your wake-up call: Your Lord has blessed you beyond measure. The least you can do is thank Him, worship Him, and live a life that pleases Him. Indeed, in that gratitude lies your peace, your success, and your eternal happiness.
