Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Surur (سُرُرٍ): Plural of *sareer*, meaning thrones or couches upon which one reclines in comfort and honor.
  • Mawdoonah (مَّوْضُونَةٍ): Woven or braided intricately, like the fine weaving of a fabric or lattice. In this context, it refers to thrones woven with threads of gold, indicating exquisite craftsmanship and unparalleled beauty.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse paints a breathtaking image of the bliss that awaits the righteous in Paradise. The believers are described as reclining upon thrones that are woven with gold—an image of supreme luxury, elegance, and divine artistry. These are not ordinary seats; they are crafted with such perfection that their beauty surpasses anything conceivable in this worldly life. The weaving of gold into the very fabric of these thrones symbolizes the honor and dignity bestowed upon the inhabitants of Paradise, where even the furniture reflects the boundless generosity of Allah.

The verse follows a description of the "Foremost" (As-Sabiqun)—those who excelled in faith and good deeds—and highlights that their reward is not merely physical comfort but a profound sense of closeness to their Lord. Reclining on these thrones signifies a state of complete rest, security, and joy, free from all toil and sorrow. It is a promise that every hardship endured in this world for the sake of Allah will be replaced with eternal ease and splendor.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Imagine a throne woven with gold, crafted by the hands of the Almighty Himself, awaiting you in a garden where no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived. This is not a distant fantasy—it is a reality promised by the Most Merciful to those who strive in His path. Every prayer you offer, every charity you give, every patience you show in the face of trials is a thread in that golden weave. Allah invites you today to be among those who recline on these thrones, not by wealth or status, but by sincere faith and righteous action. The door of Paradise is open, and the thrones are prepared—will you not take the step toward them? Let this verse ignite in your heart a longing for the eternal home, and let it renew your resolve to live a life that leads you there. For the joy of reclining on a golden throne in the presence of your Lord is a reward beyond all measure, and it is within your reach—if only you seek it with a sincere heart.
