Word Meanings:

  • مُتَّكِئِينَ (Muttaki'eena): Reclining or leaning comfortably, in a posture of relaxation and honor.
  • عَلَيْهَا ('Alayha): Upon them — referring to the couches or thrones mentioned in the preceding verse.
  • مُتَقَابِلِينَ (Mutaqabilina): Facing one another, looking at each other directly.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah describes the state of the righteous in Paradise, who will be reclining upon luxurious couches adorned with gold and precious materials. They will not sit in isolation or turn their backs to one another; rather, they will face each other with joy and warmth, engaging in pleasant conversation and gazing upon one another's faces. This posture reflects complete comfort, mutual love, and harmony — free from any tension, envy, or discord. The scene paints a picture of perfect companionship, where hearts are united in pure happiness, and every glance is filled with affection and contentment. This is a reward for their faith and righteous deeds in the worldly life, where they strove to please Allah and treat His creation with kindness.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Imagine a gathering where there is no hatred, no suspicion, no backbiting — only pure, sincere faces turned toward you with love and respect. This is the promise of Allah to those who believe and do good. The Quran invites you to strive for this eternal bliss, reminding you that the fleeting pleasures of this world cannot compare to the everlasting joy of Paradise. Let this verse inspire you to purify your heart, mend your relationships, and seek the company of the righteous — for the Hereafter is truly better and more enduring. Embrace the message of Islam, and let the hope of such a magnificent reward draw you closer to your Creator.
