Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Thullatun" (ثُلَّةٌ): A large group or multitude of people.
- "Al-Akhireen" (الْآخِرِينَ): The later ones, meaning those who came after the early generations — specifically, the followers of the final Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the description of the foremost believers (As-Sabiqoon) who will be honored in the Gardens of Delight. After mentioning a large group from the earlier nations — the prophets and their righteous followers from previous communities — Allah (Glorified be He) now states that there will also be a great multitude from the later generations.
According to the soundest interpretations, this refers to the ummah (nation) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which is the final and most honored of all nations. These are the believers from this ummah who excelled in faith and righteous deeds, who will join the ranks of the foremost in Paradise. This is a profound honor and a source of immense hope: that despite being from the last nation in time, many of its members will attain the highest stations of the Hereafter, surpassing even many of the earlier communities in virtue and reward.
This glad tiding fills the heart of every sincere Muslim with aspiration — that the door to excellence is wide open, and that Allah’s mercy and bounty are not limited to any particular era. What matters is sincerity, steadfastness, and the pursuit of righteousness.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse is a direct invitation to you. It tells you that you are not excluded from the highest ranks of Paradise. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The people of my ummah are like rain — it is not known whether the first of it is better or the last." So do not let the passage of time or your own shortcomings discourage you. Allah has kept this station open for you. Strive with sincerity, increase your good deeds, seek knowledge, and purify your heart. For the foremost are not distinguished by their era, but by their devotion and love for Allah and His Messenger. Be among them, and you will find a reward beyond your imagination — the pleasure of Allah and eternal bliss in His presence.
