Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُولِجُ (Yūlij): He makes enter or inserts, meaning He causes one to overlap and replace the other.
- ذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ (Dhāt al-Ṣudūr): That which is within the chests — the innermost secrets, intentions, beliefs, and thoughts hidden in the hearts of people.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Exalted, tells us of His perfect power and absolute control over the universe. He causes the night to enter into the day, so that the darkness gradually recedes and the light of day increases, and He causes the day to enter into the night, so that the light fades and darkness prevails. In this way, the hours of each are balanced and exchanged in perfect order, day after day, season after season — a sign of His wisdom and might. When night falls, people rest and find tranquility; when day breaks, they rise and go forth to seek their livelihoods. This continuous alternation is not a random act but a precise system set by the All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Then Allah adds a profound truth: "And He is All-Knowing of that within the breasts." He who manages the vast cosmos — the sun, the moon, the stars, and the rotation of night and day — is also fully aware of the deepest secrets hidden in the hearts of His creatures. Nothing escapes His knowledge: not a hidden thought, not a concealed intention, not a secret belief, nor a buried feeling. Just as He controls the outer world with perfect precision, He knows the inner world of every soul with complete clarity.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this magnificent verse! The same Lord who turns the night into day and the day into night, who has set this universe in flawless motion, is the One who knows what lies in your heart right now. He knows your struggles, your sincere intentions, your hidden fears, and your quiet hopes. This is not a distant, indifferent Creator — He is near, aware, and fully acquainted with your inner world.
Let this knowledge fill you with hope: when you pray in the depths of the night, He hears. When you strive to do good in secret, He sees. When you repent with a sincere heart, He knows. And let it also be a reminder of accountability: since He knows all that is within you, let your inner self be pure, your intentions be sincere, and your heart be attached to Him. For the One who manages the heavens and the earth is also the Guardian of your heart — so turn to Him, trust in Him, and let your innermost thoughts be filled with His remembrance. Indeed, in this verse lies a profound invitation to live with awareness that nothing is hidden from your Creator, and that His mercy and knowledge encompass everything.
