Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Mulk (مُلْكُ): Absolute sovereignty, ownership, and dominion.
- Turja‘u (تُرْجَعُ): Are returned, referred back, or brought back.
- Al-Umūr (الْأُمُورُ): All affairs, matters, and commands — whether religious, worldly, or pertaining to the Hereafter.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse proclaims a profound and liberating truth: to Allah alone belongs the absolute sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He is the sole Creator, Owner, and Administrator of everything that exists — from the tiniest atom to the vastest galaxy. No being, whether angel, prophet, or human, holds any share in this dominion, neither independently nor in partnership with Him. His rule is total, His authority unquestioned, and His wisdom perfect.
The verse then directs our hearts to the ultimate reality: "And to Allah all affairs are returned." This means that every matter — whether it concerns our daily lives, our religious duties, or the events of the universe — ultimately returns to Allah. On the Day of Judgment, He will gather all of creation, hold them accountable for their deeds, and recompense them with perfect justice. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and no action is lost or forgotten.
This beautiful verse carries a powerful message of hope and responsibility. If you truly internalize that Allah owns everything and that all affairs return to Him, your heart finds rest in times of hardship, because you know that the One who controls all things is the Most Merciful and the Most Wise. At the same time, it awakens your conscience — knowing that your deeds will be presented before Him should inspire you to live righteously, to seek His pleasure, and to turn to Him in every matter.
So, dear believer, let this verse be a source of comfort: your worries, your dreams, your struggles — all of them are in the hands of the Best of Managers. And let it be a call to action: since your return is to Him, make your journey toward Him beautiful, filled with faith, gratitude, and good deeds. Indeed, in remembering Allah, hearts find true peace.
