Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Āminū (آمِنُوا): Believe with sincere faith and conviction.
- Wa Rasūlihi (وَرَسُولِهِ): And His Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- Anfiqū (وَأَنفِقُوا): Spend in the cause of Allah — from your wealth, in charity, and for the good of others.
- Mustakhlafīn (مُسْتَخْلَفِينَ): Made successors or trustees — meaning that the wealth you possess is not truly yours; it is a trust from Allah, and you are temporary custodians of it, just as others held it before you and others will hold it after you.
The Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse calls upon every believer to strengthen their faith in Allah and His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) — a faith that is not merely verbal but one that transforms the heart and guides action. Alongside this call to faith, Allah commands spending from what He has granted you, reminding you that the wealth in your hands is not your eternal possession. You are merely a successor, a caretaker placed in charge of it for a limited time. Those before you owned it, and they left it behind; those after you will inherit it from you. This is a profound reminder that your true investment lies in what you send forward for your Hereafter.
When you spend in the way of Allah — helping the needy, supporting your family, contributing to good causes — you are not losing anything; rather, you are securing a treasure that never diminishes. Allah promises that those who truly believe and spend from their wealth will receive a great reward — a reward that is immense, everlasting, and beyond what any human mind can fully comprehend. This reward includes Paradise, the pleasure of Allah, and the forgiveness of sins.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear brother and sister in humanity, reflect on this beautiful invitation from your Lord. He does not need your wealth; He is the All-Rich, the Self-Sufficient. Rather, this command is a mercy for you — a way to purify your soul, to elevate your rank, and to build a society of compassion and solidarity. When you spend, you are not giving to Allah; you are giving to yourself, for your own benefit. The generous hand is the hand that is never empty, and the heart that gives is the heart that finds peace.
Let this verse inspire you to be among those who believe with certainty and spend with sincerity. For the reward of Allah is truly great — greater than any treasure this world can offer. Embrace this call today, and you will find a joy that no amount of wealth can buy.
