Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Ash-Shaytan): Satan, Iblis, the accursed one.
(Ukfur): Disbelieve; reject faith in Allah.
(Bari’): Free from; innocent of; disowning.
(Akhaaf): I fear; I am in awe of.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse draws a powerful and vivid comparison to expose the true nature of the hypocrites and their empty promises. When the hypocrites encouraged the Jews of Bani Nadir to fight against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), promising them support and victory, they were acting just like Satan himself.

The parable is striking: Satan once approached a human being and whispered to him, “Disbelieve in your Lord.” He beautified disbelief in the person’s heart, making it seem appealing and easy. The man listened, followed Satan’s temptation, and committed the grave sin of kufr (disbelief). But the moment the man actually disbelieved, Satan immediately disowned him. He said, “I am completely free of you! I have nothing to do with you now. Indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.”

This is the ultimate betrayal. Satan does not care about his followers; he only wants to drag them into ruin. Once his victim falls into destruction, Satan abandons him and even claims to fear Allah—a claim that is pure falsehood, for if he truly feared Allah, he would not have commanded disobedience in the first place. His “fear” is nothing but a hollow excuse to escape responsibility for the evil he caused.

Similarly, the hypocrites promised the Jews that they would stand with them in battle. But when the Jews were defeated and faced the consequences, the hypocrites abandoned them, just as Satan abandons his followers. They left them to face the punishment alone, denying any connection to them.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, this verse is a profound warning for all of us. It teaches us never to trust the whispers of Shaytan, for he is the ultimate deceiver. He comes to you with sweet words and alluring promises, but in the end, he will leave you in the darkness of sin and regret. His only goal is your destruction, and he will not share your punishment—he will flee from you when you need him most.

Let this be a reminder to hold firmly to the rope of Allah, to seek refuge in Him from the accursed Shaytan, and to never be deceived by those who promise you support while leading you away from the truth. The hypocrites and their like are but tools of Shaytan, and their promises are as empty as a mirage in the desert.

Turn to Allah with a sincere heart, for He is the One who never abandons His sincere servants. He is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, and He is always ready to forgive those who repent and return to Him. Do not let the whispers of Shaytan lead you astray, for his end is clear—he is the enemy of mankind, and his promises are nothing but lies. Seek Allah’s protection, and you will find true peace and victory in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 14-18 — Al-Hashr

They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
[Theirs is] like the example of those shortly before them: they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment.
[The hypocrites are] like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds."
So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrong-doers.
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
