Tafsir (Explanation):
O believers, what could possibly prevent you from eating the meat of animals slaughtered in the name of Allah? There is no valid excuse! Allah, in His infinite mercy, has already made perfectly clear to you everything He has forbidden—such as carrion, blood, and pork—so you have no reason to be confused or hesitant. The only exception to this rule is when you are forced by extreme necessity, such as the threat of starvation, where consuming what is normally forbidden becomes permissible to preserve your life. This is not a license for indulgence but a mercy from Allah to protect you from harm.
Yet, despite this divine clarity, many people—driven by their own desires and without any knowledge or proof—lead others astray. They declare lawful what Allah has made unlawful, and unlawful what He has made lawful, inventing superstitions and false restrictions. They do this not out of piety but out of ignorance and arrogance, following their whims instead of divine guidance.
O Messenger, your Lord knows best who the true transgressors are—those who overstep His boundaries, whether by making forbidden things permissible or by imposing false prohibitions. He is fully aware of their deeds, and He alone will call them to account and recompense them with perfect justice.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful reminder of the ease and practicality of Islam. Allah does not wish to burden you; rather, He has made His laws clear and has built in mercy for times of hardship. So eat from the good and lawful provisions He has granted you, and be grateful. Do not let the whispers of those who follow their desires confuse you—cling to the clear guidance of the Qur'an and the Sunnah. For indeed, the One who created you knows what is best for you, and His knowledge encompasses all that you do. Embrace this divine mercy, and let your heart find peace in obeying your Lord, who loves for you ease and never for you difficulty.
