Word Meanings:

  • Dhahiri al-ithm (ظاهر الإثم): Open and public sins committed in front of others.
  • Batinihi (وباطنه): Hidden and secret sins committed in private, known only to the person and Allah.
  • Yaksibuna al-ithm (يكسبون الإثم): Those who earn and accumulate sin through their actions.
  • Yujzawna (سيجزون): They will be recompensed and punished.
  • Yaqtarifun (يقترفون): They commit and perpetrate (evil deeds).

Explanation of the Verse:

O people, abandon and leave behind all forms of sin—both the ones you commit openly in public and those you conceal in the secrecy of your hearts and homes. Do not think that hidden sins escape Allah’s sight, for nothing is hidden from Him, whether it is done in the light of day or under the cover of darkness. The command here is comprehensive: it calls upon every believer to purify their outward actions and their inner intentions, ensuring that neither their limbs nor their hearts engage in disobedience.

The verse then delivers a solemn warning: those who persist in earning sin—whether openly or secretly—will certainly face the recompense for what they have done. Allah, the Just and All-Knowing, does not overlook a single deed. Every act of disobedience, no matter how small or well-concealed, is recorded and will be brought forth on the Day of Judgment. The punishment will match the crime, for Allah’s justice is perfect and absolute.

This is a call to sincere repentance and self-accountability. The believer who fears Allah must examine their life and rid themselves of all sins—both the visible ones that harm society and the hidden ones that corrupt the soul. By doing so, they protect themselves from divine punishment and attain a pure heart that draws them closer to Allah.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful invitation to spiritual purity and moral excellence. Islam does not merely regulate your public behavior; it elevates your private moments as well. When you abandon hidden sins, you free yourself from the constant guilt and anxiety of living a double life. You become a person of integrity, whose outward appearance matches their inner reality. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has made repentance available to all who turn back to Him. So seize this opportunity today—leave every sin, visible or concealed, and embrace a life of righteousness. The reward is not only peace in this world but eternal bliss in the Hereafter. Allah’s promise is true: those who purify themselves will find Him forgiving and merciful, while those who persist in sin will face the just consequence of their choices. Choose the path of purity, and you will never regret it.

📜 Verse 118-122 — Al-An'am

So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses.
And why should you not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled. And indeed do many lead [others] astray through their [own] inclinations without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord - He is most knowing of the transgressors.
And leave what is apparent of sin and what is concealed thereof. Indeed, those who earn [blame for] sin will be recompensed for that which they used to commit.
And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].
And is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light by which to walk among the people like one who is in darkness, never to emerge therefrom? Thus it has been made pleasing to the disbelievers that which they were doing.
