Surah Al-Ma'arij — Verse 2

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse comes as a direct response to a disbeliever who, in arrogance and mockery, challenged the Prophet ﷺ by asking for the punishment of Allah to be brought upon him and his people. Allah, the Exalted, answered this challenge with a decisive and terrifying truth: this punishment is for the disbelievers — those who have rejected the truth after it became clear to them — and there is absolutely no one who can repel it.

The meaning is profound: the punishment of Allah, whether it be the torment of the Hereafter or the calamities that may befall the disbelievers in this world, is an absolute decree. No power, no army, no wealth, no intercessor, and no force in the entire universe can stand in its way. When Allah decides to punish, nothing can shield the guilty. This is a stark reminder that human power is utterly insignificant before the might of the Creator.
