Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Aniyah (آنية): Vessels or containers used for serving food and drink.
- Akwaab (أكواب): Cups or goblets without handles, used for drinking.
- Qawaarira (قوارير): Crystal or glass-like transparent vessels.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this magnificent verse, Allah describes the bliss that awaits the righteous in Paradise, painting a vivid picture of the luxurious service they will enjoy. Servants will circulate among the dwellers of Paradise, carrying vessels made of pure silver for their food, and crystal-clear cups for their drinks. These cups, though appearing to be made of glass, are actually crafted from silver—transparent like crystal yet precious like silver—a wonder that combines the beauty of both materials. The cups are perfectly proportioned to the drinker's desire, neither too large nor too small, and the servants present them at the exact moment the blessed ones wish to drink.
This imagery serves as a profound reminder of the generosity and perfection of Allah's reward. In Paradise, every need is anticipated, every desire is fulfilled without asking, and the servants themselves are part of the divine hospitality. The transparency of the cups symbolizes the purity and clarity of life in Paradise—no hidden sorrows, no concealed pains, only radiant joy and peace.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, contemplate this scene: silver vessels and crystal cups, served by attentive hands, in gardens of eternal delight. This is not a distant fantasy—it is the promise of your Lord, the Most Merciful, to those who purify their hearts and deeds in this world. Every sip of water you take in this life, every morsel you eat while remembering Allah, every moment you restrain your tongue from harm and your hands from injustice—all of it is an investment in this eternal banquet.
The Qur'an invites you to look beyond the temporary pleasures of this world, which fade like a passing shadow, and to strive for the everlasting joy that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants. The key to that Paradise is simple yet profound: faith in Allah, love for His Messenger ﷺ, and sincere good deeds done for His sake alone. Let this verse ignite in your heart a longing for that blessed abode, and let that longing transform your actions today. For indeed, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Paradise is surrounded by hardships, and the Hellfire is surrounded by desires" (Sahih al-Bukhari). So be patient in obedience, steadfast in worship, and generous in kindness—for the silver cups of Paradise await those who drink from the spring of patience in this world.
